Lit Circle Book "Number the stars"

"Number The Stars" is a very intense book. Annemarie has a very troubled life when she was younger. She is moving from place to place avoiding danger from the Germans. This time period was taken place in the mid September and October in 1936. As well as this place she is in is Denmark, Europe. This was happening because Germans were invading Denmark to capture and kill Jewish people. How this was very difficult to see a little girl seeing her life change forever.

My reading strategies to this book was "Point of View". I'd say point of view because think if you were in Annemarie's shoes. When 5 soldiers talk to you directly what would you do? You'd probably freak out and maybe blurt out everything. As well as Mama's shoes when a soldier slaps you or maybe ask you questions you got to tell a lie because they will kill you. Maybe even worse, they could go to your family and kill them all. Point is, it is not easy telling a lie to someone who could kill you on the spot.

Theme of "Number The Stars"

My review of this book is a very harsh life. Annemarie was very young when Germans started to invade Denmark. Meanwhile Annemarie is trying to escape and go to freedom. But Germans are everywhere and asking them questions of where they are going. Once they get to a safe place Germans start to wonder what they are doing at that certain area. More family of Annemarie is there. They are also trying to get somewhere safe. Annemarie's mother tries so hard not telling Annemarie what is going on.

I'd say the main conflicts of this novel is Man vs. Society and Man vs. Man. I say Man v.s Society because the Nazis do not like the Jewish people. Man vs. Man because Annemarie was scared for her life when Germans take away her things and laugh she tries not to yell or pout at them. These tell me the possible theme is "Never stand down, and keep your head up high". Because Annemarie never cries of what they do or did. So she keeps her head up high so the Nazis won't have a lot of fun crushing Annemarie's will.

Holocaust Blog

I think people stood by because they didn't want to be involved with the Germans. I think what inspired the resistance was maybe recent people in recent times. I think what I have done is maybe be act like a German soldier and actually smuggle them out of ghettos. Ive heard most people did the same thing. I have learned that people wouldn't like taking your things or places.

Article and Poem argument writing.

The argument that was taken place in the article "Coca Cola Accused of using death squads to target union leaders." The evidence to back up this claim was because recent union soldiers were either kidnapped, tortured, killed by coca cola. Over 128 labor leaders assassinated. Coca Cola were related to these incidents and accused of it. Another reason was because of the working conditions the coca cola workers had or had done. The human rights abuses these employees and all union members.

The argument in the poem "The Sweatshop" He explained how and what the sweatshop was like. It was very mean of what they did to him and them. The working conditions were very harsh and very difficult. He explained how the boss would yell at them and treat them. They would have very little breaks.

"Future of us" summary.

The main character of this story is Josh. Whats happening in this story is that technology is taking over and how their lives are gonna change. When this was happening was in 1996. Where this was taking place was in their neighborhood in their houses. This was happening because many people change throughout history. Peoples lives change with the technology that is given today. How this was happening because of inventions.

I think the genre of this book is historical fiction. What I like about it is that peoples lives are gonna change with one invention. I've read this genre many times before and it very interesting. I would love to read this book again. What I didn't like about this story was that they weren't explaining it as much and could have gone in detail. I didn't really learn anything besides that technology is a big deal today. Hopefully there is a part two to this I would love to read more!!

"The Future of us" So far...

So far in the story I see it as how people are changing. People back then didn't know how to use the internet. But then myspace, facebook etc.. was made. 2 neighbors have lived next to each other their whole lives. Josh and Emma are the two main characters. I think that they are trying to tell people that life is gonna be a lot more different. Barley anyone listened to them. But they should have in my opinion.

The conflict of the story is man vs society and man vs man. Self to think that man vs society is that everyone is gonna be on the internet more and they are. And man vs man because two people are facing others trying to warn them about the next century. As well as man vs technology. I'd say the theme of this book is that "Technology is just an illusion" Why I think this is because technology was just made for a tool. People take it as a everyday thing and not engaging with one another.

"Fish in the Sky" summary

The main character in this book is Josh Stephenson he is 13 years of age. What is going on in this book is that Josh had just turned 13 and now is becoming a teenager and his cousin who is 17 moved in with him. When this was happening could be anytime more likely in the 21st century. This was as well as it happening in New York. Why this was happening is because he was 13 and started to feel how a teenager feels like. How was because he was 13 and became someone bigger and more mature.

The point of view in the book "Fish In the Sky" is First person. How I know this is because most of the time the book is talking about Josh. The book mostly uses I. "I turned away from my mom in fear" Josh says. I really enjoyed this book of its point of view. I wouldn't like to read this book in other point of views. I would leave it the way it is. Because point of view can explain mostly what they think or what they want. For example "Hunger Games" Katniss wants to live and she explains whats happening.

"Lemon Brown" Blog

  • What were your reactions?
My reaction to this book was shocking. The reason is because Lemon Brown had a good life. But it could all down by a single push.
  • How does this story connect to what we’ve already learned about homelessness?
That even though homeless people don't have enough life. They are still really proud.
  • What did you find interesting? Surprising?
What I found interesting was that Lemon Brown used to play for the blues and he lost his whole family.
  • How did Greg change throughout the story and why?
He changed because he wanted to give someone a chance before judging him.

new book "Fish in the sky"

Thirteen year old Josh Stephenson starts a fresh year and a turn of event happen. So far Josh meets new friends in school. As well as his 17 year old cousin moves in so things start getting frustrating for him. He also notice some people getting bullied because of there names but turn out to be good people. He loves to dream about things he would love to come true. But all this has changed since he has turned 13.

Character analysis:

Josh is 13 years of age. He loves to dream about big things in life. His dad however is never mentioned anymore. His dad left him by the age of 5. His mom and dad never agreed with each other so that why his dad left. In advance Josh learned to man up and become more successful in school and from there he witnesses things turn for him. Josh although, does get turned around with things and hard to become a new teenager. Which means more school, homework, etc.

"With their eyes" summary

With their eyes is based off of the tragic incident in america 9/11. Each student, teacher, and staff member from the university of New York. They all had their own point of views on what happened. They were very close to the Twin Towers (World trade center). About 200 hundred kids called there parents that were in the towers and wanted to see if they were ok. This book really touched me because a lot of people were in shock and so was I. I had a cousin who was in the twin towers. He thankfully made it out alive. This book is very emotional at times because some interviewed one person who parent died during the collapse. This book is an absolute tragedy I would hope for some to read to read it. The book I have finished is "With their eyes" by Anna Deavere Smith. the book is about the tragic day of American history 9/11. The book has 3rd person omniscient. Many perspectives from each of person. They all had different feelings, sights, as well hearing about it. The book is very well known and tells thee exact times of what was happening. Read the book to find out more!
